Hi everyone,

I'm Helma van Rijn. I work at the ID-StudioLab as PhD-student. My research is about how designers can be supported in understanding people with cognitive disabilities, and children with autism in particular.

My research interests lie in how to involve these special user groups in design, such as children with autism and elderly with dementia. How designers can get understanding of their needs and feelings. During my master (Design for Interaction) I did psychology courses and worked on contextmapping techniques to involve people in the design process.

On my research page you can read more about this.

I graduated cum laude for the MSc program Design for Interaction on LINKX, an interactive toy that helps children with autism learn new words. Read more about this project on the project page.

If you have any comment, question, or see project opportunities to work together, please contact me.

News!
The faculty of Industrial Design (Delft University of technology) exists 40 year. The exhibition Made in Holland in de Kunsthal is organized to celebrate this. Together with many other graduation projects, LINKX is exhibited there from 19 December 2009 till 5 April 2010.
