Project Light Blue

A roundup of public exposure of my graduation project in different media can be found on my personal website

bovenaanzicht:

24 November 2006 I graduated from the MSc program design for interaction. In my final project I developed BlueBrush. BlueBrush is a new media tool that supports sales employees of Royal Delft in the visualization of Delftware decorations. Decorations can be shown to clients by projecting them in real time and real size on ceramics. Compositions can be created instantly with an easy to use tangible control panel.

By means of this tool Royal Delft clients can get a good impression of how their Delftware product will look if painted. The advantage of the system is that clients are better able to express their wishes regarding the final product. As a result of this, the sales employee can formulate a more accurate assignment to the painters, which makes the whole design process more efficient.

The result of a meeting with a client is a photo from the composition that is projected on a ceramic product. The painter uses this photo as reference to start designing the final product.

The introduction of BlueBrush in the design process of Royal Delft does not change the way in which painters work. The products will still be painted by hand.

My graduation project fits in the research of Daniel Saakes. BlueBrush is adapted from Skin. Skin is a new media tool that supports designers in their search for materials in products. He contacted Royal Delft for collaboration, to explore the opportunities of the tool in ceramic design.
