[product & emotion] navigator
On the basis of the model developed in the 'designing emotion' research, a tool was developed that should provide designers with insight and inspiration on how products (can) elicit emotions. This computer tool, the [product & emotion] navigator, is an anecdotal database of pictures of products, the emotions they have evoked in subjects, their concerns, and the self-reported reasons behind this emotion, i.e. the appraisal. The [p&e] navigator invites you to browse through this database in an open-ended manner.
For example, you could start with a particular product and see that it evoked different emotions, depending on the type of concern or appraisal process. Than you can pick an emotion and see what types of concerns could have caused it, etcetera. In this way, the [p&e] navigator does not prescribe how such and such products will always elicit such and such emotions, but rather gives an inspirational and clarifying emotional landscape for designers.
